Evolution as a Semiotic Process

Evolution is not just genetic, it is symbolic. Reality unfolds through increasingly complex systems of interpretation, reference, and compression.

Evolution = Semiotic Expansion

At its core, evolution can be reframed as the development of semiotic capacity, the ability of a system to interpret, encode, and transmit meaning.

• From matter → to life → to mind → to culture → to meta-symbolic systems
• From raw signals → to signs → to recursive symbolic systems
• From reacting → to modeling → to narrating → to rewriting reality

Each major threshold in evolution corresponds to a leap in semiotic recursion.

II. Biological Evolution as Symbolic Precursor

Biological organisms began encoding meaning through:

• Sign-based survival: Interpreting environmental signals (e.g. red = danger).
• Mimicry and pattern recognition: Copying meaningful traits to trigger known interpretations.
